Release notes

What's new.

Chrono opens this page only when a major version changes. Smaller updates arrive quietly.

3.0.0 · November 2026

Rebuilt as a native part of YouTube

Chrono 3 is a fresh start. The old floating card is gone. In its place: a Panel in YouTube's own design language, styled like its engagement panels, that follows YouTube's light and dark themes and both of its players. Nothing bounces, nothing glows, nothing loops. It speaks in content, not chrome.

New

  • Speed table. Remaining and finish time at every common speed, with a sliding highlight on the current one. Click a row to play at it.
  • Targets. “Done by” a clock time, or “I have” a stretch of time. Chrono shows the required speed, rounded up to YouTube's 0.05× steps, with Apply.
  • Chapter scope. The chapter you're in, with its own remaining, finish time, progress and target.
  • Playlist scope. The playlist up to any entry you pick, skipping unavailable videos and counting them.
  • Speeds up to 4×. Chrono keeps going where YouTube's menu stops at 2×, from video to video, until you change speed through YouTube.
  • Player badge. “/ ends 3:45 PM” after the player's time, in theater and fullscreen too.
  • Playlist summary. One line on playlist pages: total, time at your speed, unavailable and live counts.
  • Firefox. Chrono now ships for Firefox 140 and later, declared as collecting no data.

Fixed and improved

  • No more reloading to make the times appear. Chrono waits for YouTube to draw the page, with no timeouts, and fills in background tabs when you switch to them.
  • Moving between videos never shows stale numbers or two Panels.
  • Ad breaks pause the numbers (“Paused for ad”); live streams and premieres say “Live”.
  • 12-hour, 24-hour or automatic clock. Finish times on another day name the day: “Sun 12:20 AM”.
  • Every control is labelled and works from the keyboard; the ⋮ menu follows the WAI-ARIA menu pattern.

Changed

  • Settings start fresh. Version 2's stored settings are no longer read.
  • A new icon: a clock ring ending in a red playhead.

The floating card

Chrono 2 drew a card over the page with remaining time, finish time and a speed control up to 16×. It served well, but it read as an extension bolted onto YouTube. Version 3 is the answer to that.
