Something off?

Most things sort themselves out with a quick check. If not, the answers below cover what Chrono does on purpose, and the form at the end carries exactly what we need to fix what it doesn't.

  1. Right page?

Chrono works on www.youtube.com watch and playlist pages. Not Shorts, Music, embeds or the mobile site.

  2. Give it a moment

It waits for YouTube to draw the page, and fills in background tabs when you switch to them. No reload needed.

  3. Latest version?

Browsers update extensions automatically within a day or two. What's new lists the current one.

Things Chrono does on purpose

The Panel doesn't appear.
Chrono shows up once YouTube has drawn the video and the sidebar. In a background tab, that's when you switch to it. Make sure you're on a normal watch page on www.youtube.com (not Shorts, YouTube Music, an embed or the mobile site). If it still doesn't show, YouTube may have changed its layout. Use “Report it” from the popup: it tells us what Chrono couldn't find.
The − and + buttons are missing, and the table is greyed out.
Chrono couldn't recognise the player's speed control, so it hides what it can't do rather than guess. It keeps watching and shows them as soon as the player starts. If it never does, report it with the popup's “Something look wrong?” link.
YouTube's menu says 2× but Chrono says 3×.
That's expected. YouTube's menu stops at 2×, so above it Chrono plays the video itself faster while YouTube reads 2×. To go back, press Chrono's −, or choose any speed in YouTube's menu. Faster speeds last for the page session; a reload returns to YouTube's remembered speed.
Can it go slower than 0.25× or faster than 4×?
No. 0.25× is YouTube's slowest and 4× is Chrono's fastest. A target that needs more says so: “Needs 4.6× · beyond Chrono's 4× limit”.
It says “Paused for ad” or “Live”.
During an ad, the player's times belong to the ad, so Chrono pauses and resumes after. Live streams, premieres and scheduled streams have no end, so there's no finish time; speed still works. Recordings of past streams behave like normal videos.
The playlist says “first 200 of 412 counted”.
YouTube only loads part of a long playlist. Scroll the playlist panel to load more and Chrono counts them. Mixes have no end, so there's no Playlist scope for them. With shuffle on, nobody knows the order, so Chrono says so instead of guessing.
The Chapter scope is hidden.
It appears only on videos with chapters, while the Panel is expanded, and not during ads or live streams. If YouTube's chapter list and its progress bar disagree, Chrono hides the scope rather than show wrong numbers, and “Report it” will mention chapters.
My target disappeared.
Targets are deliberately short-lived. A video or chapter target clears when you move to another video (or chapter); a playlist target clears when you leave the playlist. None survive a reload, and none are stored.
My settings reset after updating to 3.0.
Expected. Chrono 3 starts fresh and doesn't read version 2's settings. Everything is a click away in the popup or the Panel's ⋮ menu.
Firefox: Chrono stopped working on youtube.com.
Firefox lets you revoke a site permission per extension. Open the Extensions menu, click Chrono, and allow it on www.youtube.com again. Chrono needs Firefox 140 or later on desktop.
